Ecommerce Website Redesign
Murder Point Oysters, a family-run oyster farm, needed a user-friendly website to sell their oysters and branded merchandise. Their old site wasn’t user-friendly, and it was challenging for users to locate the online store. The bounce rate was incredibly high, and they also needed their current and future customers to know about the new location they just opened. As one of the only oyster farmers in Alabama, the website needed more information about their story and how they farmed their oysters. As they looked to scale their business up, they needed a website that could compete aesthetically with some of the biggest oyster brands in the nation.
I worked with a small team to design and develop a custom Shopify store. I was in charge of the design while the other two members were in charge of the branding and development. We started by developing customer profiles and a brand map to help guide our design decisions. We drew inspiration from lifestyle and outdoor brands outside the seafood industry to keep the brand grounded and down to earth. They wanted to stick close to their old site, by keeping some features as well as the dark theme they liked. We wanted to draw attention to their oysters, including lots of imagery and small animations that help guide the users.
Not only do they have a website they love but something they can show potential distributors so they can continue to expand. The store is user-friendly and easy to navigate. They also were able to target new consumers and offer pick-up services from their website. In addition, we added sections on the website that provided information about oysters for those who aren’t familiar with the industry.
