SWITCH, the stylish karaoke bar, celebrated its grand opening in October 2023. Adorned with captivating purple accent lighting, this venue offers an atmospheric experience all its own. Situated on the vibrant Robson Street, SWITCH boasts 16 private rooms available for hourly karaoke rental, ensuring guests have an ideal space for their singing sessions. Beyond karaoke, a remarkable cocktail bar adds to the allure of the venue. SWITCH is more than just a karaoke destination; it’s a nightlife destination. Check them out for yourself
! Important: The physical books were completely removed as they were always covered in beer and had to be reprinted every time a new song was added to the system.
The problem...
Customers have expressed frustration as they encountered challenges in accessing fundamental features, such as song selection and language preferences within the karaoke bar. These difficulties have not only affected their overall experience but have also resulted in loss of sales.
Common pain-points:
- Inefficient Song Selection: Customers are paying by the hour, but they spend valuable time searching for songs in an unsearchable PDF, reducing their overall karaoke experience.
- Non-searchable PDF: The existing songbook in PDF format is not searchable, making it challenging for customers to find their preferred songs quickly.
- Lack of Song Recommendations: Many customers, particularly those new to karaoke, struggle with choosing songs to start with, leading to hesitation and a less enjoyable experience.
- Impatience with Alcohol Consumption: As customers consume alcohol, their patience decreases, and the frustration of navigating the PDF songbook increases.
- Poor Visibility in Dark Rooms: The white PDF format is ill-suited for a dark karaoke room, causing strain on customers' eyes and potentially affecting their experience negatively.
The time-consuming song selection process, language restrictions, and the lack of user-friendly features completely undermined customer satisfaction and crippled a new business.
The Solution.
A user-friendly and accessible mobile application that enables patrons to access their favorite songs and have an amazing time singing their hearts out.
Okay, now let's walk through how we did it.......
(User Research)
F.Y.I., We had an extremely short timeline.
- No time for user interviews
- No time to properly create user journies
But what we did have was previous reservation DATA!
Pulled Google Reviews
Gathered all negative reviews and created a list of common complaints with the current system.
Pull Reservation Data
We collected the number of each party, number of hours spent, time of day and much more!
Word of mouth
Employees were asked to request feedback from customers as they completed their time in the room.
Next
We compiled a list and matched to a feature that the app should have.
Ideate
Created a rough sketch of the app to get the ball rolling and initiate a conversation with the developers.
Originally, there was supposed to have a login page but due to time restrictions we slimmed the screens down.
ONE weekend to test the app with a sample size of customers and get LIVE feedback.
Immediate changes that were made in result of LIVE feedback....
Just a few….
- Added a QR code to each room and to the hosting desk along with the wifi password.
- Increased text size and instructions added to the splash page
- AJAX Live results loaded from typing one letter instead of 3
- Quicker and consistent access to the song library. Resulted in more time for fun!
- The need for assistance reduced and servers were able to focus on orders. Increased bar sales.
- Quick song search process, allowing users to locate and select songs more efficiently.
The Results.
