Sparky Transport is a local family-owned logistics and distribution business in British Columbia, Canada. The business didn’t have a logo, color scheme, or any business cards. I researched competitors and designed a logo and print collateral for this business. The challenge was to design a logo for a business that had no branding but was well established. I researched and observed their loyal customers. I used user testing to see how current customers would react to the new branding. Once the logo was completed and approved, I created a flyer and brochure for Sparky Transport.

Design

I originally created a cute dog logo, but it turned out to be extremely detailed and complicated. I simplified the sketches to the logo you see above. The owner based the company name off of the family dog who recently passed away, and I wanted to honor that. As a logistics company, I wanted his brand to stand out at the same time, feel welcoming.

My Process

The idea was to design a logo that looked similar to the owner’s family dog. He owned a small white Schnoodle, and the sketches below represent my attempt to include the dog image with the logo. I settled with a logo that was based on logo #4. After tweaking the letters and adding small details, I was able to produce the final piece. The owner wanted the logo to be universal and professional while representing loyalty and friendliness. I planned to design a secondary logo incorporating the small dog vector soon!

Reflection

I had a blast designing a logo and helping a small local and established business get their first logo. The owner of Sparky Transport was pleased with his branding and planned to add his new logo to the sides of his delivery trucks. One thing I learned from this project would be to keep it simple and add to it if needed. I started off trying to make a complicated logo with necessary illustrator skills. I learned how to keep a brand consistent and plan to help him expand soon.
